As the Indiana Fever prepares for the new season, all eyes are on Caitlin Clark – undoubtedly the WNBA’s biggest crowd-drawer – and the new Fever lineup that aims to transform the franchise’s trajectory. Now, after an illustrious college career and a year of professional experience, Caitlin is poised to take her game – and the team – to new heights.
Caitlin Clark’s rookie season was nothing short of impressive. With her scoring ability, insane court vision, and competitive spirit, she has quickly become the cornerstone for the franchise. The transition from the college game to the WNBA was not without its challenges, but in the end, Clark’s first year has equipped her with valuable insights on the nuances of professional basketball, notwithstanding the physical and verbal attacks she has had to weather.
Having faced the rigors of a full-season WNBA schedule, she is now familiar with the pace and physicality of the league. In addition to honing her skills, Clark has had the opportunity to learn from veteran players, and her coaching and fitness staff, adding depth to her game. With her added understanding of WNBA defenses and strategies, she is expected to take on more responsibility, not just as a scorer but perhaps even more important, as a facilitator and leader on the court.
The Indiana Fever bolstered their roster with several significant additions that show lots of promise to reshape the franchise’s fortunes. With the arrival of Sophie Cunningham, DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, Sydney Colson, and Brianna Turner, plus a new coaching philosophy under new head coach Stephanie White, the Fever is now brimming with experience, versatility, and a winning mentality.
Sophie Cunningham, a feisty 6-year veteran from the Connecticut Suns, brings a sharpshooting ability that complements Clark’s play style. Her knack for hitting three-pointers will stretch opposing defenses, creating more space for Clark to operate. Sophie is expected to take turns with returnees Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull for the 2-3 spots. Their collabs with Caitlin could yield dynamic offensive schemes, allowing them to play off each other’s strengths effectively.
Adding DeWanna Bonner, a seasoned 15-year WNBA veteran from Macedonia, lends leadership and resilience to the Fever’s roster. A 2-time WNBA champ, DeWanna’s wealth of experience in high-pressure playoff situations is indispensable for a young team like the Fever. Her defensive tenacity and scoring versatility will not only bolster the team’s overall competitiveness but also serve as a mentoring opportunity for Clark and resident-big Aliyah Boston, helping them develop into the leaders the Fever need.
Natasha Howard is yet another two-time WNBA champion who brings a winning pedigree and resilience to the frontcourt. Known for her tenacious defense and ability to score in the paint, Natasha – along with DeWanna – will enhance the Fever’s interior presence. Their inside forays will provide the team more reliable options at the post, allowing for a more balanced offensive attack. Their enhanced inside-outside game will be crucial in creating mismatches against opposing defenses.
Veteran point guard Sydney Colson adds depth to the Fever’s backcourt. Sydney’s understanding of the game and ability to distribute the ball will provide Caitlin more time to rest and avoid injuries, hence making her fresher for the endgame. Sydney is another 2-time WNBA champ, and her experience will be crucial once the team reaches the playoffs. Sydney’s and Caitlyn’s shared lead guard role will be crucial for better ball movement and a varied flow throughout the offense.
Brianna Turner offers a defensive anchor for Indiana. Her rebounding ability and shot-blocking skills will significantly enhance the Fever’s defensive capabilities. Brianna bolsters the team’s presence in the paint, creating more transition opportunities for Caitlin, leveraging her speed and agility to turn defense into offense.
These new acquisitions spell a bright outlook for the incoming season for Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. With a roster that blends emerging talent with seasoned veterans, the Fever are looking to improve on their first round playoff finish last year. Caitlin’s year of experience will allow her to harness her extraordinary skills more effectively, while the new additions bring a wealth of knowledge and versatility to the team. As they develop chemistry on the court, the Indiana Fever is set to become a formidable force in the league, paving the way for an exciting era of basketball for both the franchise and the team’s growing legions of fans.

Portland’s got a new WNBA team for 2026, right? Wow! Looking forward to watching your team, Don. Hope you’re able to get some good players in next year’s expansion draft. But with Toronto joining as well, the number of talents available will be diluted. When is Ju Watkins joining the league?
