In a new exciting development, the NBA’s first-ever In-Season Tournament started off last week with a bang. In an effort to add more spice to the early goings of the 82-game long regular season for each team, the NBA came up with a creative abbreviated tourney with an NBA Cup at stake.
The NBA is off to a flying start. There are new players, new alignment of stars and new coaches. As the performance of some older stars start to dip (Lebron James et al), there are mid-level stars who are ready to take over (Devin Booker, Jamal Murray, etc). Plus there are exciting high-flying rookies whose death-defying moves bode well for the NBA. And European-bred players euro-stepping their way to the league. The in-season mini-tourney for the first-ever NBA Cup is something to look forward to. It tells us that the NBA is dynamic and forward-looking. It is creative with good ideas and are willing to try them. Let’s see how it goes.
Get your popcorn and beer ready, sportsfans, as the NBA regular season opens with a bang this Tuesday, Oct 24! This year’s opener will feature a blockbuster doubleheader from the Western Conference; last year’s champs – the Denver Nuggets – goes against the crowd faves Los Angeles Lakers; while the perennial contenders from Golden State Warriors lock horns with arguably the most prolific scoring triple threat from the Phoenix Suns.
The Asian Games gold in basketball gives us more impetus to work on improving local basketball. Now is the time for the PBA to make some adjustments to address the challenges of the times.
Transition to Euro-ball. Watch the Euro League play. Play team defense. Help defense. Think team. That is the only way we can compete in the much bigger, bulkier, badder international basketball community.
