The No. 6 on Boston Garden’s parquet floor will forever remind the players and fans alike of the standards of excellence, the greatness, and the extreme sacrifices one has to take to achieve success, whether it be in the game of basketball or in life’s many mightier struggles.
Undoubtedly, the AFP and PNP can play a big role in the propagation of Philippine Sports. First, it can provide a sustainable career path for athletes who have the passion to propagate their respective sports. But more importantly, it has the potential to significantly upgrade the country’s overall sports programs through a comprehensive and systematic grassroots sports development program for the youth, thus helping create a healthier, more disciplined, and more physically and mentally-endowed society.
I dream of a stronger, more resilient, and proud Filipino people. But even before we can bring that to fruition, we can make a test case of Bohol. We can make Bohol a sports giant.
Chairman Butch has undoubtedly been the principal reason behind the great turn-around in Philippine Sports. Whoever takes the role of PSC Chairman after the successful stint of Chairman Butch will have big shoes to fill. We hope that the next Chairman will heed the recommendations of the outgoing Chairman. We hope too that he will be blessed with the same passion, the same dedication for the athlete, and the same vision for sports development and nation-building as a whole. To Chairman Butch, you will be remembered and greatly revered. We could not have asked for more. Our salute to you.
