The extensive military training I got from my previous life has helped me adjust to the restrictions and rules imposed without so much of a hoot. All I have to do is think of the 1-year of plebe training in the Academy and the month-long ‘confinement-to-quarters’ suddenly looks bite-size. I think of the Ranger training in Tanay, and the sparse rations and supplies look puny. I remember the taps and reveille bugle calls, and the curfew restrictions seem right out of the ordinary.

Today, the Games begin. Let us go to the gym and cheer for the home team. Let us cheer for all the participants and show our visitors the great hospitality we have always been known for. Let’s celebrate the oneness. Let’s carry our pride and nationalism up our sleeves. Let’s go, Philippines!!! We win as one!!!
What is truly humbling about this experience was the fact that while Udenna Foundation sought to help others with its gift-giving and medical mission activities, it was the Foundation itself that had benefitted from all the expressions of love, the lessons in life, and the sense of pride and nationalism it had imbibed from this wonderful experience.
Beware the sick island of Siquijor!!! Or so we were told. Until we went there to exorcise those terrible fears which turned out to be unfounded and unfair.
