The catastrophic August 2026 glacial collapse and debris avalanche on Langtang Lirung devastated the China-Nepal border region, claiming over 1,300 lives and leaving thousands missing. There are many lessons to be learned from the disaster, including finding ways to optimize traditional satellite monitoring for predicting high-altitude slope failures, and the need for a comprehensive early warning network. In times like these, humanity must rise above borders. We can show our solidarity donating to reputable humanitarian organizations, supporting relief efforts, and extending compassion to our Nepali brothers whose lives have been forever changed. Every act of kindness, however small, reminds them they are not alone. To our Nepali brothers and sisters, be strong and know that you are not alone in your hour of need.
