The Dragons Arrive in Bohol

Four good-looking dragon boats arrived early this morning in Bohol in preparation for the 2nd Cobra – PDBF Club Crew Challenge this weekend. Present to welcome the dragons to Bohol were myself, as the Organizing Committee Chair, and the Bohol Paddlers Association, led by their President, Dr Doyet Dumaluan. Facilitating the release of the boats at the Tagbilaran Wharf was fellow paddler and 2Go executive, Aris Andrei.

The mood at the wharf was festive, with around 60 excited paddlers eagerly waiting for the opportunity to use the competition boats. It had earlier been announced that there would be difficulties in bringing the huge 40-footer van carrying the boats to the Dauis Wharf. Hence, the solution offered was to open the container van in Tagbilaran Wharf, and gently release the boats to the sea. The BPA would then have their first opportunity to try the boats, and bring the boats to their temporary home in Dauis.

And they were not disappointed. You could hear the ooohs and the aaahs as the handsome boats were unloaded. And the weight? The old dragon boats suddenly looked bulky and prehistoric. Riding the new boats was simply a blast.

With barely three days to go before the start of festivities, the excitement is in the air.
