This Sunday, September 8, Manila Bay will once again be filled with dragon boat enthusiasts as the 3rd Cobra-PDBF Dragon Boat Regatta gets underway. Sponsored by Cobra Energy Drinks, Cetaphil, the Manila Water Company Inc, Hudor Rash Guards, and supported by Greenpeace Philippines, the regatta will be participated in by eighteen (18) teams in all, the biggest array of teams for the Manila regatta this year.
The regatta will mark the return into active competition of the Philippine Air Force Dragon Boat Team, a serious contender a couple of years ago. Other new entries include the Spitfire Dragons, Alab Pilipinas and 1925 Apo Dragon Boat Club. Ready to give them a splashing welcome in the waters of Manila Bay are the teams of the Philippine Coastguard, Lake Buhi, Philippine Army, Buhi Camsur, Triton, Manila Ocean Park, Onepiece Drakon Sangress, Maharlika, Rogue Pilipinas, RCPC Dragon, and Blue Phoenix Dragon Boat Clubs.
The 3rd Regatta will be the first competition ever after the recently-held World Championship in Szeged, Hungary last July. There will be three events contested, namely: the 300-meter open standard category, the 300-meter mixed standard category, and the 300-meter women’s small boat category. Favored to clash for the crowns are the Army, Buhi Camsur, Coastguard and Lake Buhi.
Endorsed by the Manila Tourism and Cultural Affairs, this 3rd Cobra-PDBF Dragon Boat Regatta is expected to pack the seawalls of Roxas Boulevard with throngs of dragon boat paddlers and fans. Come and see for yourself exciting dragon boat action in Manila Bay this Sunday!
